La Tendencia Británica. / The British Trend

Esta temporada vuelven con fuerza en la moda y la decoración los tejidos británicos. Su calidez, y elegancia aportan siempre un estilo que da seguridad a la hora de decorar y de vestir. Sin embargo, puede resultar complicado en algunas ocasiones distinguir unos tejidos de otros. Por eso, hoy Ybarra&Serret te describe los principales tejidos británicos junto con sus orígenes y curiosidades. Tweed: se trata de un tejido áspero, inacabado y cálido, cuya base es la lana y de origen escocés. Su característica más especial es el efecto de colores que crea. El origen de su nombre viene de la palabra escocesa tweel, equivalente a twill, por su base de tejido. Cuando se comenzó a publicitar este nuevo tejido, un error de la caligrafía hizo que se nombrase “tweed”, y así quedó fijado su nombre actual.

This season British fabrics are back in fashion and decoration. Their warmth, elegance and a style always bring tranquility when decorating and dressing. However, it can sometimes be difficult to us to distinguish one tissues from the others. So today Ybarra & Serret is describing main British fabrics together with their origins and curiosities. Tweed: it is a rough, unfinished and warm fabric, whose base is wool and its origin comes from Scotland. Its special feature is the effect of colors that it creates. The origin of its name comes from the Scots word tweel, due to its base in twill. When it began to be advertises a calligraphic mistake led to appoint "tweed" and thus its present name was fixed.

Tartán/escocés: el origen del nombre viene de la palabra francesa tartan. Su fabricación se hacía tras teñir los tejidos con diferentes bayas, frutos y musgo, para luego entrelazarlos con sus particulares diseños de cuadros. Cada diseño es distintivo de un clan diferente. De hecho, en la actualidad existe todo un registro de todos los diseños y clanes existentes.

Tartan: the origin of the name comes from the French word tartan. Its manufacture was done after dying tissues with different berries, fruits and moss, and then created with those particular designs. Each design is distinctive of a different clan. In fact, there is now an entire record of all existing designs and clans.

Pata de gallo o dogstooth (diente de perro): se trata de un estampado bicolor dispuesto de forma que simula una pata de gallo o un diente de perro. Cuando es muy pequeño, también se llama diente de cachorro (puppytooth). También tiene procedencia escocesa.

Dogtooth: this is a bicolor pattern arranged to simulate a dogtooth. When it is very small, it is also called puppytooth. It also has Scottish origins.

Príncipe de Gales o glenurquhart: este tejido, mezcla de cuadros y pata de gallo, fue puesta de moda por los príncipes de Gales. Sin embargo, su origen está en la zona del Lago Ness hasta la bahía de Urquhart, donde la condesa de Seafield utilizó este tejido para hacer los uniformes de los guardabosques.

Glenurquhart: this fabric is a mixture of dogtooth and checked prints that became a trend due to the Princes of Wales. However, its origin is in the area of Loch Ness to Urquhart Bay, where the Countess of Seafield used this fabric to make uniforms for rangers.
